‘A Little Hatred’ by Joe Abercrombie
5 Stars
Warning: This book has ALL the TRIGGERS! (Hey this is a Joe Abercrombie book people! The master of violence and sex in vivid detail. Please move along if you skew on the prudish side.)
Perfect.
I really want to leave my review at one word because that is exactly how I feel. This is a perfect book so what more do I need to say?
A Little Hatred is the first book in Abercrombie’s The Age Of Madness series. I have read the preceding The First Law trilogy and his three stand alone novels (Best Served Cold, The Heroes, and Red Country) all set in the same world. You do not need to have read The First Law trilogy prior to starting A Little Hatred but the book will resonate with you so much more if do! The main characters in A Little Hatred are the progeny from Abercrombie’s previously mentioned books and it is fascinating to see where the next generation in this extended story takes us.
This is a very humorous grim dark, again and this time for emphasis grim dark, fantasy (extremely light on the magical elements) where you will be rooting for the cast of morally grey characters. Isern, oh Isern - my favorite character. If I had to live in this world I hope I would be you!
Simply: Perfect.

…and I forgot an important tidbit, because I always forget important tidbits. I read this via immersion reading (the novel in hand along with the audio book). The voice actor Steven Pacey is phenomenal and brings the story to life. If only he would narrate every book ever written!
