‘Grey Sister’ by Mark Lawrence
5 Stars
Writing a review for book two in a series, without spoilers for the first book, is tough! So this will be a review-lite.
I enjoyed Grey Sister (the second novel in the series Book Of The Ancestor) more than Red Sister (link to my review of book one). We get to see how Nona has grown in both maturity and skill (yet still a novice in training with new frenemies to deal with). I loved the addition of multiple chapters from a different and important side character’s perspective. Nona goes on another heart pounding chase in which we explore the wider world of the corridor, the girl just can’t get a break. New phases of old vendettas. Ongoing chilling political tensions. My anxiety was through the ringer.
This is not a typical second book where it is just a vehicle for a series info dump. And I am happy to report that there was no middle book slump. In all aspects Grey Sister elevates the story of the Book Of The Ancestor series.
