‘Holy Sister’ by Mark Lawrence
4 Stars
And I have reached the end of the Book of the Ancestor series! (Reviews: Red Sister & Grey Sister) I enjoyed the series but…
Holy Sister wrapped up Nona’s growth from child to adolescent to young adult and I will miss the many more adventures sure to come her way after the ending of this series. I am a character driven reader myself and if I could rate strictly on characters it would be a two thumbs up, 5 star, Must Read!
There were many epic moments - battle, out foxing opponents, sacrifices, reveals, space lasers, twists, and losses. Even ULTIMATE POWER(‘ish). However, as predicated with all of my previously stated descriptive buzz words, there was just too much story - I felt that everything and the kitchen sink was included - and sometimes a little less is way more. And the conflict de-escalation was anticlimactic.
I went on a dark and crazy three book metamorphosis with Nona, her fellow novices, her frenemies, and the nuns. It is hard to please readers when concluding an overarching magical hangover of a tale. I get it. I liked the big climactic ending, I just didn’t love the big climactic ending.

MVP? - The nuns! They sanctified fafo!
